ANXIETY

HOW TO PREVENT ANXIETY AND PANIC ATTACKS?

A panic attack is a sudden surge of uncomfortable and frightening physical symptoms - increased heart rate, dizziness or light headedness, shortness of breath, chest pains, nausea, inability to concentrate, and confusion - combined with thoughts of impending doom. So, when a panic attack strikes, you have to react as quickly as possible so as not to let the feelings and emotions intensify. So what steps can you take to prevent anxiety and panic attacks taking control.
These attacks take hold and intensify very quickly, so you have very little time to stop them. As soon as you feel any of the symptoms start to develop or begin to think or feel that an attack is about to start, the first thing you should do is to close your eyes, but not too tightly.
Then take a few light breaths and allow those symptoms or thoughts to pass. It is very important that you do not attempt to fight against them because then you will lose control over them, allowing them to intensify. Fortunately, by changing your breathing you can reverse these symptoms.
You must accept the situation and with your eyes closed and continuing to breathe gently, you can begin to gain control. In your mind, accept that the situation is real but that you are in control; you are not going crazy and every thing is fine. Accept that the situation exists for now but it is your mind that is playing tricks on you and you are fine.
In this way, by learning to accept your fears and symptoms you will re-gain control over your mind and body and you will then be able to prevent anxiety and panic attacks taking over.
However, dealing with these attacks is quite different to eliminating them completely from your life. Those who suffer from panic attacks can take medication, make some changes to their lifestyle or carry our relaxation exercises. But there is a fundamental difference between them and someone who has completely eliminated their problem. This is the fact that the latter no longer fear the thought of having another attack.
If this seems a little too simple then consider the reason why most people and maybe you, read articles such as this one. The main thing that has you searching for a solution to anxiety and panic attacks is the fear of having another one.

WHY DO WE SUFFER FROM ANXIETY?

Many people suffer from anxiety attacks and these attacks often come on suddenly and can be debilitating to the person suffering from one. Some people are prone to reoccurring attacks while others may have one and never have another one again. Everyone is at risk to a panic attack at some point in their life so you may be wondering what causes these sudden attacks, what are the symptoms of an impending attack and what cane be done to prevent them. First, here are some common causes:
1) Many social situations can cause an attack. Being in a strange place with people you have never met before can trigger one. First dates, work parties and invitations to meet a partner's family are also triggers for a lot of people. 2) Job interviews cause nervousness in all of us but for some people, the thought of going to one can result in severe anxiety and even cause the person not to attend. 3) Being in any kind of dangerous situation or being involved in an accident or violent confrontation may result in a panic attack bad enough to result in hospitalization. 4) Any form of stress that may be going on in your life can cause you to become a victim on one of these attacks no matter what situation you find yourself in.
The symptoms of a anxiety attack vary from person to person but generally you will first experience extreme nervousness and maybe even paranoia. Other symptoms include trouble breathing, excessive sweating, nausea or even fainting.
There are things you can do to prevent an attack from coming on. First of all, if at all possible, avoid situations that are known to cause you problems. Practice deep breathing exercises and try to keep your life as stress-free as possible. If severe enough, you can talk to your doctor about medications you can take to keep the attacks at bay. Some people even claim that controversial treatments such as hypnosis and acupuncture are also great ways to cure someone of debilitating panic attacks.
